Columbus BridgeTherapy for “Instant Teeth”

Monday, June 2nd, 2014

For those patients who would like a more immediate solution to the problem of complete tooth loss, Simon Hill is now offering the innovative Columbus Bridge treatment option to patients from all over Wales and beyond. The cutting edge technique, relatively new to the British market was developed in Italy, where Simon Hill was trained in the procedure.

The treatment offers patients the same reliable, fixed and long-term solution as traditional implants but they are able to walk away with new fixed teeth in as little as 24-48 hours. This means that even in the short term, patients can avoid the need for a removable denture altogether.

The key to this treatment is in the planning; all patients are required to undergo a CT scan of the jaw which is used to assess bone density & volume and to ensure accurate placement of the implants. A minimum of 4 implants is required but more may be used where deemed clinically necessary. The implants are then restored with teeth that also provide immediate stability. This enables them to support the bespoke made fixed bridge straight away. Impressions are taken the same day and sent to our expert dental technician, who manufactures your quality bridge immediately for fitting within 24-48 hours of surgery.

As with many other dental procedures, patients will need to follow a soft food diet initially and following a period to allow the tissues to heal, further impressions will be taken and a final  custom made bridge will be fitted, offering patients permanent, fully functioning “new teeth”.

If you feel this treatment might be of benefit to you or if you would like some further information, please contact the practice for further details or to make an appointment for a no obligation consultation. Prices start from around £12,000 for a full arch but following a consultation Simon Hill will provide a personalised treatment plan and full cost estimate.

Dental Implants

Friday, July 10th, 2009

The effects of tooth loss are great and it can lead to a lack of confidence which affects everyday life. Dental Implants are the next best thing to natural teeth and can be used to replace a single lost tooth or a whole mouth of missing teeth. They last longer and provide greater function and support than either bridges or dentures.

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is an artificial root made of titanium which is securely placed into the jaw to serve as an anchor for a replacement tooth. A crown is secured over the dental implant, matching the colour and contours of the surrounding teeth. The bone grows around the root so the implant becomes integrated into the bone structure and very secure.

Dental Implants look, feel and function just like natural teeth so no-one will know the difference.

For patients in South Wales wishing to replace missing teeth, close unsightly gaps or secure unstable dentures, dental implants may be the ideal long-term solution and for those patients looking for an immediate solution to tooth loss, we also offer the ground-breaking Columbus Bridge Therapy for “instant teeth”.

It is important to have healthy gums and sufficient bone to support an implant root, so we are careful assess whether implants are a suitable option for you, but even if you don’t have enough bone there are techniques to increase the volume of bone in your mouth if you need it.

The Benefits of Dental Implants

  • They look, feel and function like natural teeth
  • They are strong and long lasting
  • They do not involve any other teeth
  • You avoid the embarrassment of loose dentures
  • Restore your chewing ability with confidence

  • We have advanced formal training in implant skills and use techniques known for their innovation and reliability. Meet Simon Hill and his Associate Dentists

Simon Hill BDS Dip Imp Dent RCS (Eng) GDC No 72727

Simon HillHaving grown up in Llantwit Major, this historic town in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan was the obvious location for Simon Hill to open his Implant and General Dental Practice.  The town also provided the springboard for Simon’s professional rugby career and he went on to play for Cardiff and won 12 caps for Wales.  Simon is still very much involved in rugby in the local community, coaching the Llantwit Major RFC  First XV.

Simon qualified from Cardiff Dental School in 1996 and has gone on to build up a very successful general practice. He developed his skills in providing the highest standard of aesthetic dentistry  before concentrating on the placement and restoration of dental implants. He has completed the Diploma in Implantology with the Royal College of Surgeons and has an advanced certificate in hard tissue augmentation.  Simon has over 8 years experience placing implants and implant retained restorations,  ranging from simple tooth replacement to complex full mouth rehabilitation including the new Columbus Bridge treatment which provides patients with restorations in just 24 hours.  You can read his patients’ comments on the Testimonials page. He is a fully trained sedationist and also  lectures and acts as a mentor for other dentists interested in developing their skills in implantology. Simon also is a trainer for newly qualified dentists whom he mentors at Wyndham House during their initial year of practising dentistry.

Simon Stokes BDS MFDS GDC No 103804

Simon StokesAssociate Dentist Simon Stokes proved so popular with our patients that his appointment book is now at capacity.  Simon originally comes from County Limerick in Ireland and his previous experience has been in both hospital and private and NHS practices in Ireland and Scotland.  Simon is married and lives with his wife in Cardiff.

Here at Wyndham House Simon is currently seeing a mixture of patients both within and outside the NHS. He is particularly interested in cosmetic dentistry, offering patients a wide range of treatments including tooth whitening, ceramic crowns, veneers, bridge-work and high-end dentures. Alongside this Simon is delivering general dentistry such as replacing amalgam fillings with more aesthetic composite (white) solutions. Simon has a proactive approach to preventative dentistry and is especially dedicated to working with our hygienists to promote good oral hygiene practise with the children registered at the Practice.

When he’s not busy maintaining the oral health of Vale residents, Simon will most likely be found exercising or watching some sporting activity.  He’s a fan of both rugby (so far still supporting Ireland but we live in hope) and football and keeps himself fit by running, skiing and visiting the gym.

Oral and General Health Assessment

At Wyndham House Dental Practice our emphasis is very much on preventative dentistry.  All our dentists will carry out a thorough “whole mouth” examination from which they are able to gain an indication of your general health as well as the health of your teeth and gums.

Dental Hygiene

Again with the emphasis on prevention our dental hygienist is available for routine scale & polish appointments as well as placing medicated treatments and more in-depth perio courses to combat gum disease.  She is also on hand to provide oral hygiene instruction and demonstration.  Special children’s sessions are also available by prior arrangement where for a small fee per child, small groups of children can attend for a fun but informative session which includes a dental goody bag.

Dental Implants

The effects of tooth loss are great and it can lead to a lack of confidence which affects everyday life. Dental Implants are the next best thing to natural teeth and can be used to replace a single lost tooth or a whole mouth of missing teeth. They last longer and provide greater function and support than either bridges or dentures. Find out more about our Dental Implants Service.

Tooth Whitening

Better than the toothpaste! Professional tooth whitening works well and predictably. A great way to transform your smile, simply and quickly.  With our custom-made home whitening kit it is possible to whiten your teeth by up to 8 shades whiter.  With follow-up whitening gel available to purchase direct from the surgery (subject to regular examinations) you can top-up and maintain your new whiter smile.  Find out more about Tooth Whitening.

Do you know someone who has a single darkened tooth? Often, when a tooth has had a root canal filling it can go much darker than the other teeth, almost black in some cases. Individual teeth can also be whitened to restore their normal colour.

Cosmetic & Complex Dentistry

We offer all aspects of cosmetic dentistry, ranging from high quality crown and bridgework to advanced treatments, such as custom shaded and finished crowns, bridges, porcelain veneers and inlays, tooth-coloured fillings and teeth whitening.

Crowns and Veneers

Crowns and veneers can be used to improve the appearance of teeth whether they are discoloured , have poor shape or position. You can be initially be fitted with prototype restorations of the proposed final result. As a result we can make any minor adjustments you may care for on the prototypes before making the final restorations. In this way we can be totally sure you will get the ideal result you are looking for.

Tooth Removal

Nobody looks forward to having a tooth removed. But often, the thought of having a tooth removed is worse than the experience itself. Our expertise in this area means we can go to great lengths to ensure that the tooth is removed carefully and effectively in the most pleasant manner possible. This ensures that post-operative discomfort is minimised. We can also provide sedation for those people who are really anxious.

Root Fillings

Root fillings are the ‘last-ditch-stand’ to save a tooth. Imagine a tooth is like an ice-cream cone, with the part of the tooth visible above the gum being the ice-cream and the tooth root being just like the ice-cream cone – tapered and hollow. The nerve and blood vessels that keep the tooth alive are inside the hollow section of the ice-cream cone (the root canal). Sometimes the root canal becomes infected and causes tooth-ache or an abscess. The purpose of a root canal filling is to clean out the root canal and fill it preventing any further infection. Normally, the root-filled tooth is weakened by this procedure and crown would be recommended to strengthen the remaining tooth. Although a root-filled tooth is dead (no nerve supply) it should function normally for many more years.

Bridges and Dentures

We are able to offer our clients a wide range of options to fill any gaps in dentition, from just one tooth to a number of teeth.  Depending on personal needs your dentist will be able to offer different solutions / materials to suit your individual requirements including permanent options such as the placement of implants.

Sedation

Ideal for longer treatments or for patients who feel anxious, we are able to offer in-surgery sedation for most treatments.  Please ask your dentist for further details.

Mouth-guards

We can offer a speedy service for tailor-made gum-shields in almost any colour or combination of colours.  As an ex Welsh International and Llantwit Major rugby player, Simon Hill is all too aware of how important gum-shields are, not just for rugby but for a variety of sports, and particularly for children.  This being the case Wyndham House offers discounted rates on gum-shields for junior patients and members of Llantwit Major Rugby Club. Ask your dentist or at reception for further details.

We are also able to provide devices to help alleviate tooth-grinding / snoring etc. Just ask your dentist for more details.

Finance

For treatments costing in excess of £500 we are able to offer our clients finance arrangements subject to approval by our credit company.*  Treatment costs can be spread over 12 months interest free or longer at a competitive rate of interest.  Ask your dentist for further details.

* Authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority
